I don’t know about you, but the letter Q! Nothing beats getting stuck with one of these letters on the last one or two turns. How do you play the tile and not get stuck with the points? Where on earth are you going to squeeze in a Q with such short notice? Will your opponent clean out their rack before you can play it? These are all fair questions that go through our minds when this occurs. This article is going to give you some clever ways to get that Q out of your rack.
The first thing you need to do is take a look at the board and see if you have any open I’s or A’s. If you don’t have any of these open, chances are pretty good that you will get stuck with the 10 point loss. The next thing you want to do is analyze your rack to see if you have a T or an S. The most common target words used during the last few rounds are : “QI”, “QIS”, “QAT”, or “QATS” or “QUA”
The odds of you being able to play a 3 or 4 tile word at this stage of the game is slim. It’s not an impossible scenario, but don’t expect it to happen to often. The trick to not getting stuck is to get that Q out of your hand as soon as possible. There have been several times where I hang on to that Q because I was looking to play that killer word on a Triple somewhere. Get rid of that thing as soon as you can, you’ll be glad you did.
